CDT 2014+15

The Continental Divide Trail (CDT) is next to the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) and the Appalachen Trail (AT) one of the three large long-distance trails in the USA.
Hikers who have done all three hikes sa a thru-hiker receive the "Triple Crown".

The Continental Divide Trail follows the Continental Divide of the Americas along the Rocky Mountains from the mexican to the canadian border.

Depending on the choice of route the distance varies between 2.500 and 3.100 miles and traverses the U.S. states New MexicoColorado, Wyoming and Montana as well as the border area of Idaho.

The trail is a combination of dedicated trails and small roads and in comparison to the PCT not yet fully developed. ..about 75% are completed.

Every year about 100 brave thru-hikers looking for the adventure!
On the PCT there are about 1.000, on the AT more than 2.500!

  • My starting point will be at the Crazy Cook Monument in New Mexico! A good 2.5 hour ride from the nearest town of Lodsburg... somewhere in nowhere!
  • My finish line will be at the Waterton / Glacier National Park.
  • The CDT passes through many of the highest regions of Colorado and is concurrent with the Colorado Trail for approximately 200 miles. Highest summit is Grays Peak with 14.258 ft!
  • One of many highlights along the trail will be the section through  Yellowstone N.P. - certainly one of the most impressive parks in the United States.
  • The CDT is grizzly bear country - not to be underestimated! But thru-hikers know how to act accordingly, something you can not always about "normal" tourists.
  • An average thru-hike northbound takes about 5 months from late April to mid September.
